Clinical Pharmacists in General Practice

Clinical Pharmacists in general practice

Patients in seven practices have access to expert advice from a clinical pharmacist when they visit their GP, thanks to the expansion of a new scheme to fund, recruit and employ pharmacists in local practices.

Examples of the benefits patients can expect include extra help to manage long-term conditions, specific advice for those with multiple medications and more access to clinical advice on treatments.

NHS England has provided to £31m nationally for its Clinical Pharmacists in General Practice pilot, due to an overwhelmingly positive response from GP surgeries and South Durham Health secured funding for three pharmacists working in the following practices:

Silverdale Family Practice
Oxford Road Surgery
Blackhall and Peterlee Practice
Murton Medical Group
Caradoc Surgery
Shinwell Medical Group
Deneside Medical Centre

Pharmacists and practices benefit from an extensive support programme over the three years of the scheme.
